Mens 1sts 7 v 0 South Notts 1sts

Goalscorers: C.Gell (2), A.Baker, M.Hilton, R.Mawee(3)

Atherstone Adders Mens first team started their league season with a solid victory over a much changed South Nottingham side. With the opposition making several signings over the off season they were almost unrecognisable from the side that struggled last year.

Atherstone began the game well patiently transferring the ball around the defence controlling the tempo of the game. An early short corner for South Nottingham was snuffed out by Michael 'babymaker' Pipe before Atherstone broke the deadlock. A quick 1-2 between Martin Webb and Graeme Wilmott in midfield led to a break through into the D, Webbs reverse stick shot was well poached on the line by Jaz Rawandha.
Atherstone continued to apply pressure earning a short corner which was cooly converted by Matt Hilton (who would do more than most for a lasagne) with a well placed drag flick. Wilmott was once again involved in the build up for the third goal firing a quick pass into the D for Ady Baker to convert with quick first time effort that caught the goalkeeper off-guard. Daman Johal wrapped up the first half scoring with a tidy finish from a good pull back from Baker.
The half time team talk was to repeat the first half performance, remain patient and keep a clean sheet. Atherstone controlled the game well in the second half scoring 2 almost identical goals from fluent passing moves involving Lloyd 'who spilled treacle on the right wing' Crowley, Webb and Baker, Courtney Gell finishing off one with Raj Mawee getting the other.
Gell wrapped up the scoring with a controlled reverse stick effort after some good build up play from debutant Jack 'James Meer's stunt double' Bullmore.
Atherstone will now look forward to building on their positive start when visiting local rivals Tamworth next weekend.
