Adders Warwickshire Minis : Atherstone February 2019

Atherstone Adders Hockey Club hosted the Warwickshire Mini Hockey Club on a cold, wet Sunday morning. Teams form Hampton, Warwick, Leamington and Sutton travelled to Atherstone to compete at U10, U12 and U14 age groups. The day started in the rain with a group of Adders and parents setting up the pitch for the day.

The U10 were the first group to play winning two and drawing two they finished in second place overall, with some great goals from Julian Roberts and Andrew Currie. For this tournament Martha Nield made her debut in defence and Connie Barden did the same up-front showing how versatile they are. Keepers Edward Kobrin and Kieran Orchard both had great games saving many goals, as did Olivia O’Brien, Blake Kobrin and Georgina Flavell-Dobson who supported them well in defence. Jimmy Prince and Harvard Martin ran around tirelessly in mid-field. Overall a great performance from all players.

The second group to play were the U12s where we fielded two teams the Atherstone Blacks and the Atherstone Reds. The more experienced Reds performed really well winning three; and drawing and losing one. They also finished second overall. The Blacks were a new team with many players playing their first ever competitive games for the club. As the tournament progressed they gelled well together finishing fifth overall. Well done to new players Amreen Kaur, Jorgia Downing, Olivia Bourne, George Morris and Harry Dennis, a great start to your competitive hockey.

"Another successful tournament for the Adders u14s, just narrowing missing out on top spot after losing 1 out of 4 games to tournament winners Sutton. Some excellent play was built to create a number of chances to attack, and some clever play and reading of the game to defend 🐍🏑 ...... now it’s time to defrost myself 🥶 and enjoy a glass of vino" Report by Emma Snowdon
