Mens 1sts 6 v 3 Ramgarhia 1sts

Goalscorers: C.Hobbs(2), D.Johal(2), M.Webb, L.Crowley

This was the match to decide the League title and the Adders knew that only a first class performance would be good enough against the free scoring and second placed team from Derby. Ramgarhia had beaten the Adders in the previous weeks atrocious weather conditions and had displayed immense fighting spirit in difficult conditions. It was now up to the Mens 1sts to show that they were worthy of the League title.

It didn't start too well though for the home side as Ramgarhia took an early lead following a defensive lapse by the Adders. The Adders were taking time to settle and Ramgarhia were  solid in defence and were causing the Adders concern with their use of the long ball tactic. The home side's nerves were settled though when Cameron Hobbs showed quick reactions in front of the goal to sweep in a rebound from the Ramgarhia goalkeeper.
The Adders then had lond spells of possession as they probed for the next goal. It came on the stroke of half time when Damon Johal broke the deadlock with a shot past the unsighted keeper. This goal caused the visitors to lose their composure and gain a series of yellow cards as they argued with the umpire.
The second half started with both sides playing excellent hockey as they looked to add to their scores. Ramgarhia were rewarded for their efforts with an equaliser and te tension grew. The turning point of the match came when Ady Baker was deliberately fouled in the D by the Ramgarhia goalkeeper. He was dismissed to the sin bin for 10 minutes and up stepped Lloyd Crowley to slot the ball home against the stand in keeper to give Adders the lead. The Adders then extended their lead with the regular keeper still off the pitch when Martin Webb slotted home a penalty corner.
Ramgarhia fought back and narrowed the gap once more when a mishit penalty corner bobbled through the Adders defence and with time running out once more the tension grew in the game. The Adders were helped by the poor discipline of the visiting team who were in constant verbal battle with the umpires and this led to Cameron Hobbs virtually settling the game when he tapped in a pass from Martin Webb following a quick taken free hit.
Damon Johal then put the icing on the cake and started the league title celebrations when he pounced on another penalty corner rebound to secure an excellent victory in a very tense but high paced game.
The Adders were League Champions for only the second time in their history!
